It is built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by some of the best staff in study abroad, both in the U.S. and overseas, in order to provide you with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and career. Learn more about the Discovery Model.

Kingston University's Summer School is an exciting opportunity to take classes and explore British culture in 4.5 weeks. Numerous classes are available and all have a particular focus on England, London, or Britain, allowing you to study the local culture in class as well as experience all that it has to offer outside the classroom. Two optional long weekend excursions (additional fee) allow students to journey beyond England to another European country or region.

Social activities and optional trips

Upon arrival, Kingston hosts an Orientation and Welcome Reception, which provide the perfect platform for meeting fellow students and the Summer School staff. Kingston will also put on various social events, including BBQ, film nights, and a farewell dinner with dancing.

British Culture and Society includes field trips as part of the curriculum. Students not enrolling in this class still have the opportunity to participate in field trips, depending on space availability and on a fee per trip basis.

Additionally, there will be two, optional four-day weekend excursions (additional fee) organized by the University. These excursions allow students to travel to mainland Europe, Ireland, or elsewhere in the UK through an organized group itinerary. The other two weekends provide free time for exploring London and the area closer to Kingston, or taking an organized day trip.

Sample organized excursions:

  • Scotland: This heritage tour of Scotland will take students from the lowlands of Edinburgh to the Highlands and Loch Ness.
  • Ireland: This weekend tour will take students to see the beautiful countryside of Galway, and a chance to take in the buzzing nightlife in Dublin.
  • Brighton: This day excursion takes in the Royal Pavillion, the Brighton Laines, and a chance to experience the fun of the Palace Pier
  • Paris: This weekend tour takes students to one of the most romantic cities in the world. The Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower are just some of the sights to enjoy.

Other Tours and Travel Available

Beyond our included orientation and excursions, you will be able to pre-book a wide variety of day, weekend, and week-long tours at a discounted price through our travel partner, STA Travel. These trips provide the ultimate flexibility for you to travel where you want to go, when you want to go, and with whom you want to go. Most trips have open dates, so you can pre-book the trip(s) that interest you, yet choose your dates later on once you’re abroad. This flexibility also means friends that you make from other countries/programs or even your friends and family who are visiting you abroad can also participate. Learn more>
