Kimberly Iona - 2009 Alumna of the Year

Our annual Alumna of the Year award recipient, Kimberly Iona, receives once-in-a-lifetime chance to launch into a career in the field of International Education!

Kimberly Iona
Chapman University Graduate University of Waikato Alumna, Feb 2008

Kimberly Iona spent a semester abroad in New Zealand in February 2008 at the University of Waikato. Studying abroad was Kimberly’s first chance to see the world beyond American borders and defined to her the true meaning of global citizenship.

Originally from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Kimberly has served as the President, Chapman University’s Pua’ikeana (Hawaii club) during her undergraduate career. She has also worked as a Peer Advisor at Chapman University’s Center for Global Education and as a volunteer with the “Hour of Art” program in Orange, California and with the Chapman Children’s Center. She also enjoys surfing and hiking in her free time.

In Kimberly’s application for the Future International Educator Award, she writes, “To be a global citizen is to be aware of issues affecting the countries around our homeland borders but also understanding the issues directly affecting those on the home soil. When I can accomplish this task, then I know I have taken on the responsibilities of what it means to be a global citizen. I want to help future students to achieve this goal through the International Education field.”

Having recently graduated from Chapman University in Orange, California, Kimberly is currently seeking to enter the field of International Education.
