GlobaLinks Learning Abroad has designed this CQUniversity program with your individual student goals in mind. It is built around a unique Discovery Model which is delivered by some of the best staff in study abroad, both in the U.S. and overseas, in order to provide you with an individualized experience through discovery in 5 key areas: personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional. CQUniversity's Study Abroad programs include:
Marine Science
Study biology and environmental science coursework and undertake a focused research project on the Great Barrier Reef.
Exercise and Sport Science
Take coursework in areas such as biomechanics, sport physiology or sport marketing and gain practical experience in our on-campus clinic or a professional healthcare or sport management setting in our city.
You also have the choice of creating your own program by choosing courses from different disciplines from the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health and the Faculty of Arts, Business, Informatics and Education.

LocationLocated on the Tropic of Capricorn, Rockhampton experiences warm to hot summers and very mild winters. The region has some of the most beautiful coastlines and landscapes in Australia, with easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian outback.
Academic HighlightsStudying at CQUniversity is the opportunity to combine adventure with a strong academic program. As a Study Abroad student, you can create a program which will suit specific interests and or academic requirements by choosing subjects from across a number of discipline areas or may focus on one area of specialization.
Subjects are available in a broad range of fields including environmental science, sport and exercise science, indigenous studies, psychology, nursing, history, geography, business, information technology, teacher education, engineering, pathology and nutrition.
University ServicesStudying overseas can bring unexpected challenges along with excitement. Student Services at CQUniversity provides assistance from arrival in Australia to departure. Services and assistance include:

HousingAs a GlobaLinks Learning Abroad student, you are guaranteed pre-arranged accommodation to fit your lifestyle. There are a variety of housing options available which you will apply for after acceptance at the Rockhampton campus.
You have the option of living on-campus at the fully-catered Capricornia College (hall of residence). Capricornia College offers on-campus accommodation in a safe, supportive, and friendly environment. The College houses up to 350 male and female students in single rooms, with shared facilities and all meals provided.
Benefits of living at the College include academic support services, access to sporting facilities, formal and casual functions/dinners, and recreational and social outings.
If desired, assistance will be given to help students find off-campus rental accommodation close to the University though transportation will need to be considered. To minimize costs, fully furnished rental accommodation would be preferable but you will need to consider added costs such as linen, crockery and cutlery, or a TV.
We can also assist to find home stay accommodation for students wishing to spend time with an Australian family.
OrientationBridging Cultures Program
The GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Bridging Cultures Program is our signature orientation program for all semester and year abroad students. The cost for this multi-day program is included in your program fees and covers several nights accommodation, most meals, local transportation, and excursions.
Typically 4-6 days in length, each orientation program includes:

Orientation sites vary based on the location of your program. Each site is selected based on the proximity to your host university as well as for the unique activities available within the area.

CQUniversity Orientation
Once you have received your student visa, you will need to make your travel arrangements. It is important that you notify the CQUniversity campus of your arrival details at least once week prior to arrival. You need to plan to arrive at the campus at least one week prior to commencement of study so that you attend and participate in orientation sessions and finalize accommodation arrangements.
Each campus has orientation sessions which will assist you to adjust to life and study in Australia. An orientation session is conducted at the beginning of each semester. During this time, students are provided with information about living in Australia to help make the transition as easy as possible. In addition, students are encouraged to take part in all the social activities of ‘O’ Week (Orientation Week) for all Australian and international students.
Scholarships AvailableA $1000 AUD scholarship is offered to every GlobaLinks Learning Abroad student. Students must apply through GlobaLinks in order to receive the award through the online application upon acceptance to the program. Special Programs/Excursions

Discovery Activities
Planned Excursions & Events
Our in-country resident staff arranges scheduled activities with students throughout the year. Activities are optional and designed to explore the five key areas of discovery: academic, social, personal, cultural, and professional. These are not just visits to tourist attractions. For example, these are activities such as networking opportunities, local festivals, gallery openings, and other similar events that you can’t find in a travel book. These activities will truly enhance your experience.
On-Going Activities
Your exploration of the culture, the academics, the people, and yourself is what will truly enhance your experience. Through the Discovery Model, our in-country staff will provide you with advice and recommendations for other types of activities you can undertake in order achieve your individual goals.
Specific Excursions Included in Your Program Fees
Multi Day Excursions included in your program fee
In addition to the Bridging Cultures Program, a free multi-day excursion is included in all semester/year abroad programs in Australia, New Zealand, or Fiji. Students studying in these destinations can choose from one of the four excursions listed to the right. The cost of the excursion is included; however, you will need to pay for transportation to the destination. Learn more>
Other Tours and Travel Available
Beyond our included orientation and excursions, you will be able to pre-book a wide variety of day, weekend, and week-long tours at a discounted price through our travel partner, STA Travel. These trips provide the ultimate flexibility for you to travel where you want to go, when you want to go, and with whom you want to go. Most trips have open dates, so you can pre-book the trip(s) that interest you, yet choose your dates later on in your semester. This flexibility also means friends that you make from other countries/programs or even your friends and family who are visiting you abroad can also participate. Campus facilities include a swimming pool and gym, playing fields, baseball diamond, tennis and basketball courts to name a few. Perhaps you may like to try something new such as "rugby," "netball," or "cricket". CQUniversity teams compete in various sports.
The CQUniversity International Office offers a free package of adventure activities for all international students to help them get to know the region and make the most of their semester, including a welcome ceremony, a visit to the dreamtime center, the rodeo competition, local festivals and more.
Other options include scuba diving, surfing, adventure caving, horseback riding, spending the night under the stars, or just lazing by the beach. CQUniversity international office is happy to assist with planning any activities students wish to experience during their stay.
If you're after "one on one" meetings with kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and other Australian wildlife in the region, you can simply take a walk around the CQUni campus in the morning or at sunset or, you can head to the wonderful (and free!) Rockhampton Zoo or a nearby wildlife park, to get up close and feed the animals.
Community Involvement
While abroad, we recommend getting involved in your local community. It's an awesome way to meet locals, experience the true Australian culture, and create long lasting memories.    Enhance Your ExperienceGlobal Citizens Development Modules
The Global Citizen Development modules are online learning components designed to help you explore your study abroad destination and experience at a whole new level. These modules are not mandatory, however we strongly encourage your participation as they will introduce you to the opportunities and challenges you may encounter when participating in a study abroad program, as well as expose you to cultural insights and knowledge about your host country to help make your program abroad even more successful and fulfilling. Through the 3 modules, you will refine your skills in cross-cultural observation, adaptation, and communication.

An additional refundable housing deposit may be required for your housing selection. This housing is self-catered, therefore you will have access to a kitchen where you can prepare your own meals.

Entry RequirementsApplicants must have the required GPA and have completed at least the equivalent of one year of full-time study at the university/college level.
Students with a lower GPA than the requirement may be considered on a case by case basis. Please contact our office for more information.
